Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded comprehensive early childhood development program providing services to families and children from 0 to 5 years old. The program is designed to help children and their families during the formative years by providing comprehensive educational, nutrition, health, and family services. We have a number of locations that are conveniently located within the city. To apply for the Head Start or Early Head Start Program you can visit our Family Services Center located at 1021 Highland Avenue or call 269-2229. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) Program, Alabama Business Charitaboe Trust Energy Assistance Program, and Alabama Gas Corporation Program provide funding to help eligible individuals and families defray the cost of home heating and cooling bills. Each program have separate eligibility guidelines and applications are done by appointment only. To schedule an appointment for assistance call 263-3474, ext. 2405 Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Due to the high volume of calls you may have to continue to call until you speak to someone.
The Emergency Crisis Assistance Program is designed to meet the one-time emergency needs of individuals or families confronted with a crisis due to loss of employment, illness or other disaster situations. The program provides financial assistance to qualifying households to assist with basic expenses such as food, shelter, utilities, purchase of prescribed medications, and traveler's aide. To apply for assistance contact our Community Services Department at 263-3474, ext. 2301.
Montgomery Community Action Senior Citizen Congregate Feeding Program is designed to meet the basic need of senior citizens of Montgomery County. The two senior congregate sites are located in Mt. Meigs and Antioch. We provide services three days a week to senior participants and include a nutritutional lunch, health and nutrition education, arts and crafts, exercise classes and outreach services to a limited number of homebound participants.
